What will students see and do?
Active Learning Centres delivers school residentials that go far beyond ticking boxes. Its programmes provide transformational outdoor experiences that empower young people and genuinely stand apart.
Why schools choose an Active Learning Centres school trip
An Active Learning Centre doesn’t just run activities, it develops skills that last. Every programme is tailored to your students, helping them build resilience, independence, teamwork and confidence that stays with them long after the trip ends.
Every centre’s experiences are rooted in real adventure. Far beyond a simple zip-wire, the mountain, coastal and woodland settings offer opportunities that few centres can match. From learning bushcraft in the forest to exploring rugged landscapes, students take part in unforgettable challenges grounded in nature.
Accommodation is comfortable, varied and designed to fit your group’s needs. Cuffley offers cosy eco-pods and traditional bell tents; The Towers provides a newly renovated Tudor-style house, and Sealyham welcomes groups to its characterful Georgian manor. Across all sites, comfort, safety and a close connection to the outdoors come as standard.
Every trip is fully adaptable, ideal for supporting transition, enriching the curriculum or rewarding your students. The programmes are all-inclusive – including accommodation, food and activities, with no hidden extras. Active Learning Centres’ transport partner, QCT, also provides preferential rates for schools who book a school residential with the company.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
Active Learning Centres transforms outdoor experiences into powerful learning opportunities that complement the curriculum and develop essential life skills. From woodland trails to coastal cliffs and mountain peaks, each centre offers activities that help students build resilience, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and confidence, while promoting wellbeing.
Across three unique UK centres, every programme is designed to support learning beyond the classroom.
At Cuffley, Hertfordshire, students explore 96 acres of ancient woodland through high ropes, climbing, archery, orienteering, night-line challenges, and team problem-solving exercises. These activities promote collaboration, strategic thinking, and self-confidence.
At Sealyham, Pembrokeshire, you will find some of the UK’s most stunning beaches nearby, and the centre provides dynamic coastal experiences, such as surfing, coasteering, kayaking, climbing, and high ropes. Students develop courage, resilience, and communication skills in hands-on ways that link directly to personal development and physical education outcomes.
In Snowdonia, at The Towers, students undertake mountain walking, gorge scrambling, rock climbing, canoeing, mine exploration, abseiling, and traverse walls. These challenges encourage risk assessment, goal-setting, and perseverance, reinforcing lessons in geography, science, and physical education.

Safeguarding is the highest priority. All staff have passed enhanced DBS checks, and a full-time safeguarding officer is on hand to ensure the safety of every child.
Active Learning Centres’ safeguarding policy and procedures are available on its website. You can also find the health and safety policy there.

Equipment is regularly inspected for safety and maintained to a high standard.
The centres have comprehensive public liability insurance to cover your group once you arrive. However, you will need trip insurance to cover your school group’s journey to and from the camp.
