Bringing you MFL Teachers for Free

With the government’s ambition for 75% of year 10 pupils studying the EBacc combination of subjects in 2022, Randstad anticipates an increased demand for MFL (Modern Foreign Language) teachers in England.

To address this demand, Randstad Education is currently working alongside the Department for Education (DfE) on the Spain’s Visiting Teacher Programme (SVTP).

The DfE has selected Randstad as the sole recruitment and placement partner to recruit, assess, and place Spanish teachers in the UK to support with closing the talent gap in this area as part of this programme.

During March the company held assessment centres in Madrid in partnership with DfE to assess over 170 teachers. The teachers that attended the assessment centre were all bilingual in Spanish and English, while some were able to speak French and/or German as well.

All of the teachers went through a thorough assessment including a robust competency based interview with a headteacher, focusing on their ability to reach the teacher standards and positive classroom management practices; a group exercise to assess their knowledge of the UK education system, their oral communication and listening skills; and a written assessment to test their grammar, their ability to assess student work, and their ability to give constructive feedback to students.

Who are Randstad Education?

Randstad is the leading specialist education recruitment business in the UK, and part of one of the world’s largest recruitment organisations. It operates throughout the UK providing staff to educational institutions from early years through to higher education.

On an average day it will have 2,500 teachers working across 4,800 schools in the UK, and place over 2,800 teachers in permanent work each year.

Are you looking for an MFL teacher?

If you currently have, or expect to have a vacancy for a Spanish, French or German teacher in your MFL department, you could benefit from a funded placement as part of this programme.

The DfE will pay for Randstad’s services, and you would benefit from a thoroughly assessed teacher with no recruitment fee.

It is able to arrange the interviews, and you can gain access to each candidate’s file so that you have a full picture of their offer before you consider whether they are the right fit for your school and department.

The DfE has also engaged an organisation that will support with the integration of the Spanish teachers into the UK, your school and the local community.
