Younger pupils can simply write the rest of the scene or the following scene. Older pupils can add cut-away scenes and develop the extract into a whole play.
You can use this drama script as a dialogue for performances or as an exercise in writing scripts. It’s also useful as a springboard for character work, improvisation and learning about annotating scripts.
What is the drama script about?
This short drama script revolves around a schoolyard rumour and its effects on the students involved. The main issue at hand is an incident where Sally, a student, is reported to have hit another student, Joseph, leading to her being called to see the head of the school.
The conversation reveals the layers of gossip and assumptions that fuel the story. Initially, the reason for the altercation is unknown, leading to speculation and rumour-spreading, a common scenario in school environments.
The dialogue touches on themes of bullying, the consequences of actions and the advice given by parents on handling conflict.
The friends critique both Joseph’s behaviour and Sally’s reaction, reflecting on the moral lesson of walking away from provocation.
The play ends with an awkward encounter between the friends and Sally, suggesting a confrontation or resolution might follow.
This narrative captures the complexities of school dynamics, peer relationships, and the challenges of navigating conflicts and rumours.
