This PowerPoint presentation for Year 4 physics looks at what electricity is, how it is used, its dangers and basic electrical circuits.

The first section covers what electricity is and why it’s important to our everyday life. Pupils need to work out what electricity makes the following objects do: lamp, fan, drill, kettle, toaster.

Pupils will then need to answer some safety questions around electricity and how to treat it with care and respect:

• Why is handling electrical appliances with wet hands dangerous?
• Why is it dangerous to repair, or try to repair faulty electrical items yourself?
• Why is it dangerous to use electrical appliances in the bathroom?
