This engaging activities pack for Insect Week, British Science Week or any time of year helps primary pupils find out about minibeasts through fun, hands-on learning. It’s a brilliant way to introduce minibeasts and biodiversity in a cross-curricular context.
What is Insect Week?
Insect Week takes place across the UK at the end of June and is organised by the Royal Entomological Society. It celebrates the incredible diversity of insects and aims to inspire people of all ages to learn more about these essential creatures and the vital roles they play in our ecosystems.

Fact sheet: Introduces Insect Week and explains what insects are, highlighting their role in ecosystems –from pollination to decomposition.
Insect or not? sorting task: Pupils learn to identify true insects from other minibeasts by their key features – such as six legs and three body parts.

Creative activities: Children can colour in a variety of realistic templates including beetles, flies, butterflies and more. They can also design their own imaginative bug using prompts and guided questions.
