This germination and plant growth worksheet for Year 5 looks at what elements make cress grow, such as light and dark, water levels, soil type and temperature. There’s also a growing cress experiment to have a go at.
The worksheet kicks off with a problem about someone who wants to enter a cress growing competition. Children need to write about how the person could find out what cress seeds need to germinate and grow into healthy plants. In their growing cress experiment, would the person have to record or measure?
Children will then carry out the growing cress experiment themselves and record their results. Before they start, they should predict the best conditions for germination and plant growth.
After their experiment, children can record whether it was a fair test and what their conclusion was.
The worksheet also contains an extension activity.
