What are the CREST Awards

CREST Star and SuperStar Awards are an engaging way to bring science to life in your classroom. By introducing students to real questions from the world around them, CREST allows children to build their confidence and problem-solving skills, using easy-to-run activities that require minimal equipment. There are over 100 challenges for KS1 and KS2 available on the CREST website.

CREST Star and SuperStar Awards offer students the chance to explore the world around them using short, problem-led challenges.

Students are given their own passport to complete as they take part in activities – once they have finished eight challenges they are eligible for their award.

You can submit your children’s passports online and purchase a certificate and iron-on badge for each student.

Each challenge begins with a story that links to broader situations they might encounter. Children explore a question or idea presented through the story.

They are supported to think and talk about what the aim for their investigation is and different ways to approach it.

Activities require children to develop independent working skills, completing challenges independently of adults – either on their own, in pairs or small groups.

They are encouraged to discuss scientific problems and how to record their results. Each challenge gets them to think about and share how to test their ideas, and how to tell people what they did.

Even teachers without a science background are encouraged to consider CREST. The website features a section with teaching resources, activities and helpful tips to keep everything running smoothly.

CREST Awards are flexible and cost effective. They can be run in schools, clubs or at home. With no set timetable, passports can be started whenever you want, and take as long as you need.

CREST Star and SuperStar won the Teach Primary Resource Awards in 2018.
