How one UK primary school is using edding’s eco-friendly resources to embed sustainability into everyday learning…
At Mill Lodge Primary School, sustainability has become a central part of school life. With edding’s support, the team has introduced practical, creative solutions to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions and educate pupils about environmental responsibility – all while keeping classrooms fully equipped and expressive.
How did you introduce the product or service into your school?
We started with a sustainability audit and looked at our classroom resources. One of the simplest swaps was switching to edding’s EcoLine markers. The fact that they’re made from 90% recycled materials really appealed to our staff – and the pupils were fascinated to learn how everyday plastic waste could become a useful tool.
How have you used the product or service in the classroom?
We now use edding markers throughout the school – in classrooms, for whiteboards, in staff planning sessions and even for displays. We also introduced the Return Box so pupils could actively take part in collecting old pens and learning about recycling. It’s been a brilliant way to bring sustainability into real-world teaching.
“It’s fun putting my old markers in the box – it’s like giving them a second life.”
Year 2 pupil, Mill Lodge Primary School
What difference has it made?
It’s helped us embed eco-awareness into our everyday activities. The markers are long-lasting, and each refill pot contains the ink equivalent of 15 markers, helping to slash supply costs by up to 50% and reduce single-use plastic waste.
Pupils are more engaged in sustainability topics and proud to take part in tree planting via edding’s Tree Appeal donation. It’s been a true culture shift.
Would you recommend it to other schools?
Absolutely. edding’s tools are simple to use, easy to implement and have an immediate impact. And the children love being part of something bigger – from recycling to reusing and even helping plant trees across the UK and Africa.
