30 Second Briefing

Early education about the weather and climate has many benefits for young children; it helps them to better understand the elements that shape our environment and encourages their natural curiosity about the world around them.

Profile Education’s Weather Station supports safety awareness, language development, critical thinking, STEM, problem solving, and emotional and cognitive development, to name just a few of the many benefits.

It is a comprehensive teaching aid with a vast array of features that will help engage children while learning about the changing climate around us.

1. Introduce environmental awareness

Combining simple, colourful, and interesting graphics with maths concepts measuring volume and speed, alongside climate change, natural cycles and patterns, the Weather Station allows children to monitor daily weather changes, track seasons, and observe what happens in their environment.

This helps them to develop early analytical skills, review information critically, and form a better understanding of weather conditions.

“The Weather Station allows children to monitor daily weather changes, track seasons, and observe what happens in their environment.”

2. Learn about thermometers and temperature

A handy thermometer is attached to the Weather Station, showing the temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit. This helps children develop numeracy skills as well as knowledge of how to measure and record the air temperature in line with their weather observations.

Temperature provides a practical context for measurements, thermodynamics and states of matter.

3. Track the wind

Easily track the wind speed and direction by observing the wind sock, and record observations using the wind chart and dials.

Older children can learn and develop their scientific terminology with the beginner’s guide to the Beaufort Scale, an empirical measure that describes wind intensity based on environmental observations.

4. Measure rainfall

The Weather Station also features a rain gauge that collects raindrops and measures precipitation over a period of time. This teaches children about rain patterns and seasons and how they impact nature around us, especially crops, animals and tides.

5. Monitor plant growth

Another interesting feature is the transparent planter attached to the bottom of the station. Children will be able to sow seeds and watch each step of their development and how they relate and react to the seasons and weather changes.
