5 reasons to consider… Number Sense Maths

30 Second Briefing

Written by teachers for teachers, Number Sense Maths was born out of frustration at the absence of resources to systematically teach factual fluency.

Our Early Years, Number Facts, and Times Tables programmes are modelled on the structure and pedagogy of phonics programmes and have been carefully researched, trialled and iterated over the last decade. They provide exactly what you need to achieve factual fluency in additive and multiplicative facts for every child.

1. Modelled on phonics

Our programmes teach every additive and multiplicative fact systematically. Just as schools can identify where they teach each grapheme-phoneme correspondence in phonics, the Number Sense Maths programmes systematically teach the facts and strategies children need to succeed, leaving nothing to chance.

2. The foundation of factual fluency

The Early Years Number Sense programme teaches a deep understanding of quantity and of numbers to 10. Structured around 95 teaching animations, it provides starting points for whole-class number sense discussions, along with associated pedagogical subject knowledge and prompts for wider provision.

“The children really engage with the animations and ask to explore the resources during child-initiated learning. They have definitely inspired much richer and more focused discussion.”

3. Build number confidence

The Number Facts Fluency programme builds fluency in addition and subtraction facts, and confidence and flexibility with number. This systematic and structured programme ensures children develop visual models of number, a deep understanding of number and number relationships, and fluency in addition and subtraction facts.

“I’ve been using Number Facts Fluency with a Year 6 intervention group (very low self-esteem). They love it and are so chuffed that they can now solve so much independently and have strategies – a huge boost for their confidence.”

4. Times tables fluency for every child

Starting in January of Year 3 – once children are fluent in addition and subtraction facts – the Times Tables Fluency programme is a highly visual scheme of work focused entirely on times tables. It provides the structure and depth to times tables teaching that children need to achieve fluency in multiplication and division facts and concepts.

In addition to the 36 essential facts, the programme also teaches the 10, 11 and 12 times tables in preparation for the Y4 Multiplication Tables Check.

5. Everything you need, ready to go

Animations, exercises, practice booklets, practice generators and assessment tools are all included for minimal prep and maximum impact.
