Created by experts and grounded in pedagogical research, this structured and systematic digital programme ensures every learner acquires basic number knowledge.

It’s quick and easy to embed in short, daily sessions, and fully resourced – reducing teacher workload.

1. Like phonics but for maths

When children learn phonics, they are learning to read so they can read to learn. It’s a means to an end. The same is true for number fluency. Children need basic number knowledge in order to access the whole mathematics curriculum.

Like a phonics programme, Winning With Numbers is structured and systematic, with a straight-line sequence of learning that guides learners along the path to numeracy.

2. Fully resourced

Winning With Numbers identifies 300 unique pieces of number knowledge for step-by-step learning. It comes with all the tools you need to improve numeracy outcomes and help every learner become fluent and confident with number:

  1. 300 sequenced teaching videos, mapped to each ‘win’
  2. 1,200 explicit instruction goal videos (each of the 300 ‘wins’ is broken down into even smaller goals)
  3. Tens of thousands of online practice questions
  4. Progress tracking for individuals, groups and schools

“Winning With Numbers significantly reduces staff workload because all the planning and resources are available at the click of a button.”

Deputy headteacher, Langley Green Primary

3. Quick and easy to embed

The programme is designed for daily focused sessions – typically 20 minutes per day – and works alongside any existing maths curriculum.

The ready-made resources reduce teacher workload, and the programme can be used in the classroom, at home and independently.

Training and support is available, including free onboarding training, just-in-time professional development videos, optional touch‑base meetings, and access to a supportive Maths Leader Network.

4. Created by people who understand curriculum design, teaching and learning, and school leadership

Created by Ben Harding (aka ‘Teacher Ben’), an experienced school leader, maths teacher, advisor and edtech specialist, the Winning With Numbers sequence of learning is driven by globally recognised features of Great Teaching: Cognitive Load Theory, Retrieval Practice and Explicit Instruction.

“It’s great to see something that has been created by someone who understands children, teachers, workload and numeracy.”

5. Evidence shows it works

Schools using Winning With Numbers report progress in learning, more engaged teachers, pupils and parents, and a reduction in staff workload.

A randomised controlled trial study found an effect size of 1.18, which indicates a large positive impact. Read the report.

“Now that Winning With Numbers is embedded in daily lessons, children are more confident and fluent. The small step curriculum really helps all children succeed.”
