Help your students improve their wellbeing with free resources from Better Health

Better Health want to help teachers address and facilitate open conversations in the classroom about wellbeing, helping young people build healthier habits that support their overall health.

The recent NHS Mental Health of Children and Young People in England survey showed that mental health disorders were most common in secondary school-aged students.

Committed to supporting teachers, Better Health has created free and flexible resources that feature student-led videos, quizzes, and real-world scenarios that give students a range of practical ideas to help them look after their wellbeing. The resources cover topics such as:

  • Physical and mental wellbeing – how looking after physical health can have a positive impact on a person’s mental wellbeing.
  • Vaping – students learn about the increasing risk vaping can have on their wellbeing, including increased anxiety, nicotine addiction, and effects on brain development.

All the resources support the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education guidance and have been developed with teachers and approved by the NHS.

Available to download at the School Zone, the resources are easy for teachers to build into their lesson planning and flexible for use in form time, assemblies or longer lessons.

Better Health also provides support for teachers, and anyone who is experiencing low mood – a problem that can be especially tough during the winter months.

For teachers looking for support, take the Every Mind Matters NHS-approved quiz and get a free, personalised action plan to get you started on your own wellbeing journey. Whether you want to sleep better, manage anxiety, or just boost your mood, support is available.

Teachers can also sign up to a four-week email programme to receive helpful reminders and tips to help you stay on track.
