What will students see and do?
Foxlease Residential and Activity Centre is the perfect place for your students to experience hands-on learning in a unique setting. At the centre, students will be invited to engage in adventure activities such as abseiling, raft building, geocaching, and trail walks. Students can also try their hand at archery bushcraft, canoeing, and more.
Take learning outside the classroom to the next level via all of the exciting activities on offer.
How does the trip link to the curriculum?
During this school residential trip, students can learn about team-building and co-operation by taking part in activities such as giant Jenga, crate building and raft building. All of these activities require communication skills that help your students learn to work together.
Due to the outdoor nature of the activities, you can also tie this excursion into science classes. Show children different plants and animals as you explore Foxlease on a guided walk.
Subjects covered
Teaching resources provided
At Foxlease, all activities are provided by onsite staff. Teachers can contact the centre ahead of time to discuss what topics they want to cover and to plan activities accordingly.
Centre staff are available to support teachers with group activities outside of those provided by the centre, too. This makes it easy for you to tie in lesson plans with an adrenaline-filled school trip for your students.
Minimum and maximum group size
All activities at Foxlease are based on groups of 12 students. If you want to add more students to the group, contact the centre for special arrangements.
When groups are larger than 12 students, Foxlease can rotate students between activities. This helps ensure that everyone has a chance to participate without having too many students in one area.
With less than 12 students, not all the activities can be completed. For example, team-building exercises such as crate stacking or raft building aren’t available to groups smaller than 12.
Details of risk assessment
Foxlease carries out daily risk assessments to make sure all activities are safe to run. Instructor competency, group numbers, age, group ability, clothing, and weather conditions all affect the risk assessment conducted on any given day.
On top of that, teacher to student ratios are strictly adhered to. This helps ensure that students are accompanied by a sufficient number of adults at all times while on Foxlease property.
Finally, all risk assessments are regularly updated and revised, based on governing guidelines, instructor experience, accident forms, and more. This helps ensure that each activity is safe for students to participate in.

Facilities on-site
Foxlease facilities include campsites for student groups wanting to get a more outdoorsy experience, as well as accommodation buildings. The campsites are located close to flush toilets and showers.
There are also four other buildings available for accommodation on the property. These include the Coach House, Princess Mary House, the Barn, and Princess Margaret Lodge. Each housing option has its own toilets and showers. This makes it easy for your group to prepare for the day’s activities as a unit.
Outside of the housing facilities, the area offers mess halls for student dining, as well as various facilities that house the activities offered on the premises. This includes a rock wall, zip-lining equipment, crate stacking area, lake for canoeing, and archery range where students will spend activity days.
Opening times
While the facilities are open 24/7, activities are run by instructors during the day. General office hours for Foxlease are between 9am-5pm.
Pricing
The price per pupil at Foxlease varies based on where students will be staying on their school residential trips and what type of activities they will be participating in. The most economical option is camping, while staying in the main house is the most expensive choice.
Pricing for camping starts at £4.85 per student for unequipped camping and goes up to £49.45 per tent for tented villages. For accommodation in one of the Foxlease buildings, groups can expect to pay between £170 and £270.50 per night.
On top of the accommodation pricing, activities include their own separate pricing. Land-based activities cost £68.30 per pupil, air-based activities start at £102.70 per pupil, and water-based activities start at £80.15 per pupil.
Travel arrangements
Foxlease can easily be reached by car, bus, or train. For school groups arriving by train, get on at Southampton Central or London Waterloo station. From there, groups can take the train to Brockenhurst and transfer to bus 56 or 56A to arrive at Foxlease.
National Express coaches also run regularly from London Victoria to Lyndhurst. This is one of the easiest options for student groups planning a visit to the area.
