What is UK Parliament week?
UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is an annual event, spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how everyone can get involved.
It is a great opportunity to empower young people to use their voice for change and participate in their democracy both locally and in Westminster.
This year’s event is taking place on 14 – 20 November.
What’s in it for me?
It’s free to take part in UKPW – all you need to do is sign up! We’ll then post you a free kit packed with ideas and resources including an activity booklet, a ballot box and more.
There’s lots of ideas for fun activities to do online or in the classroom. You’ll have everything you need to tailor your UK Parliament Week activity to suit whatever time you have available and age groups you’re working with.
Last year participating schools took part in over 10,000 activities, collectively celebrating UK Parliament week in all sorts of ways, including:
- online Q&A sessions, quizzes and lively debates
- debating issues and holding votes
- creating petitions
- themed assemblies and school council elections
- virtual chats with MPs, members of the Lords, local councillors or mayors, MLAs, MSs and MSPs
Will my MP attend?
When you sign up, we will ask you if we can let your MP know you’re taking part. Your MP might get in touch or ask if they can attend your activity – either online or in person.
There was an average of 13 events in each constituency last year, so they won’t be able to come to every activity.
I’m in! How do I sign up?
You can sign up any time but we only have 10,000 free kits and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
