What Rising Stars Reading Planet can offer pupils in KS2

Choosing a reading scheme for KS2 can feel difficult, with many factors to consider.

At Reading Planet we understand this, so we’d like to address some of the main queries we receive below to help you make that choice. So, what are the key considerations? Here are the top five questions and our answers:

Q. Are all reading schemes created for the National Curriculum?

A: Reading Planet is the only major scheme created for the current National Curriculum. All of our books have been carefully levelled to age-related expectations, and the books and teaching resources have been designed for learners to meet and exceed the expected standards of the national reading tests, so that they become fluent, confident readers by the end of KS2.

“Reading Planet is the only major scheme created for the current National Curriculum.”

Q. Can schools use more than one reading scheme?

A: Yes. Schools can mix and match with Reading Planet – if you have a different scheme in place at KS1 for example, our KS2 scheme can slot right in beside it. Or we can provide a whole-school scheme too, whatever works best for your school and budget.

Q. All reading schemes seem similar. Is there any real difference?

A: We’ve designed Reading Planet to be different in a number of ways. These include using the National Curriculum to create it, underpinning our decision-making using unique research from Hodder Education, putting inclusion at the heart of our books, and using award-winning authors of ‘real’ children’s books and different paper and formatting to make our books not feel like reading-scheme books.

“The scheme has been designed to be as user-friendly as possible, so set-up and on-going use is quick and easy.”

Q. Budgets are tighter than ever. How can they stretch further?

A: Reading Planet is cost effective and provides excellent value for money. We can also create a bespoke package for all budgets.

As an example, an unlimited, whole school, one-year subscription to Reading Planet Online for KS2 is only £349 plus VAT. That’s access to 192 books and quizzes, teaching notes, audio for Astro books, reporting and teacher mark-up tools – all for less than a couple of takeaway coffees per week!

Q. Setting up reading schemes can be tricky and time consuming. Is there support?

A: Absolutely. The scheme has been designed to be as user-friendly as possible, so set-up and on-going use is quick and easy.

Our teacher resources aim to save you time and plan lessons, too – for example, with each of our KS2 books, we provide a worksheet, useful summary, highlighted key words to support vocabulary teaching, and clearly outlined curriculum coverage.
