The newly published The National Curriculum Outdoors series for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 supports teachers in linking curriculum objectives to outdoor lesson plans for every subject and year group, providing a structure for children to learn, create and have fun outdoors.
The lesson plans in these handbooks include primary curriculum objectives; intended learning outcomes; warm-up and main activities; plenary guidance; ICT and PSHE links; and word banks.
The books are co-authored by outdoor learning experts Deborah Lambert, Michelle Roberts and Sue Waite. They are based on outdoor education research and the activities described have been tried and tested in schools.
Here, Deborah Lambert, Michelle Roberts and Sue Waite give further information on the series, and how the books can be used by teachers to enable pupils to experience the health and wellbeing benefits of learning in the natural environment.
A free subject overview showing the topics covered at each curriculum level by The National Curriculum Outdoors is available to download here.
