In March of 2021, the Department for Education announced the decision to abandon its 2007 programme Letters and Sounds, stating that it was ‘not fit for purpose’ and that ‘SSP programmes should be created by teachers and phonics experts’.
With a wide range of phonics programmes now available, the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programme is one that continues to stand out among the others and prove that it’s so much more than just letters and sounds.
Our programme is used in over 150 countries worldwide, empowering thousands of teachers who transform children’s literacy ability.
The programme enables teachers to get their children reading and writing from an early age. With over 30 years of proven results, it has been trusted in helping schools create fluent readers, confident speakers and eager writers.
The programme extends across 7 years of primary school, with the first year of Jolly Phonics followed by an additional 6 years of spelling, punctuation and grammar teaching. The teaching is systematic and progressive meaning that previously learnt knowledge is constantly revised as new concepts are introduced and built upon.
Choose from photocopiable handbooks or pupil and teacher books to deliver the programme and use decodable readers to match the skills that children are taught. For interactive lessons, Jolly Phonics for the Whiteboard is perfect for whole-class teaching.
Supplement and support your teaching with an extensive selection of multi-sensory resources, which will engage and excite your class.
These resources support your children’s learning in a variety of ways, with teachers and children able to practice blending skills with over 100 decodable readers; enjoy whole-class teaching with the Big Books; decorate the classroom with a wide range of colourful posters; sing the Jolly Songs and perform actions for each of the 42 letter sounds; and so much more! With the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programme, our responsibility to help teachers and children doesn’t end with the resources, as we also offer a wide range of opportunities for anyone looking to undertake training, be it a beginner to phonics or someone simply looking for a refresher course.
For whole-school training, our Jolly Phonics Professional Trainers –independent, experienced trainers who have achieved excellent results with the programme – are able to provide tailor-made training to meet the needs of your school.
Sessions are developed to ensure that there is consistent teaching of the programme throughout your school.
There is also the opportunity to attend a scheduled course where you can meet with other teachers and get lots of practical ideas and advice from trainers who have used the programme successfully for a number of years and seen the difference it can make to children’s learning.
Our online courses are packed with audio, text and digital footage; these courses provide an interactive and flexible way to study. They will equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding you need to teach the programme effectively to your class.
To experience the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programme for yourself, you can now join us for two FREE online sessions with the incredible Jolly Phonics co-authors, Sue Lloyd and Sara Wernham.
Throughout June and July, we will be running two free sessions: Get Started with Jolly Phonics with Sue Lloyd and Extending Jolly Phonics through KS1 with Sara Wernham.
