Fresh healthy eating resources launched by Get Set to Eat Fresh from Team GB and Aldi

Get Set to Eat Fresh, the healthy eating education programme from Team GB and Aldi, is launching new classroom resources specially designed to support teachers of 5-14s whilst developing a love and understanding of fresh, healthy food.

With Get Set to Eat Fresh, teachers can access free, fun and engaging curriculum-linked teaching resources about healthy eating. This ambitious education programme is brought to life by Team GB athletes who inspire students about the benefits of healthy eating by providing insight into athlete nutrition and their own eating habits.

Backed by Aldi’s latest Athlete Ambassadors, Jonny and Alistair Brownlee, alongside other top Team GB stars such as Jade Jones and Jack Laugher, Get Set to Eat Fresh is set to improve the eating habits of 1.2 million young people in the UK by 2020.

Cross-curricular links

Get Set to Eat Fresh is introducing four new cross-curricular themes:

Investigate Fresh Food: spark curiosity and build knowledge about the food we eat by encouraging investigation of fresh food and the properties of food. Backed by films featuring the Brownlee brothers and taking a scientific approach to food, this theme encourages hands-on exploration of the food we eat.

Master Skills: focusing on skill development and food preparation, this theme draws on athletes’ ability to practise and refine skills as inspiration for developing key cooking skills. Pupils will explore techniques for learning new skills, practise different knife holds when preparing foods and keep track of their progress.

Shop with Success: pupils will develop practical life skills that will help them prepare and cook healthy food for themselves. The activities encourage the development of essential life skills, such as budgeting, planning grocery shops, safely storing food, weighing up the benefits of preparing versus buying snacks, and challenging students to avoid food waste.

Travel with Food: teachers can take their pupils on a culinary adventure across the world, explain how food brings people together across continents, and illustrate how food can act as a window into different cultures. With a geography and cooking focus, the activities explore the similarities and differences in international foods and celebrate how food brings people together across continents.

Each resource theme provides free, fun and engaging resources including an introductory film and discussion points, activity ideas for the classroom, an assembly or classroom presentation and student activity sheets.

Alongside teacher-facing classroom materials, the programme provides additional support for parents, including online guidance, tips and activity ideas, to ensure parents can reinforce positive messages about the importance of cooking skills and a love for fresh, healthy food.
