Money Heroes is a free programme from Young Money, supported by HSBC UK, which seeks to transform financial education for primary children, aged 3–11. Recognising that parents and teachers are key influencers in a child’s development, the programme enables a collaborative, child-centred approach to teaching financial education, both at home and in the classroom.
A range of resources, tools and guidance for parents and teachers, hosted on a bespoke online platform, ensuring that children have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills across the core themes from the Young Money Primary Planning Framework.
Money Heroes has developed a comprehensive, free financial education programme to support teachers and parents to easily engage pupils in the classroom and at home and help strengthen pupils’ financial education and build a bright future.
Financial education is critical in the development of children’s knowledge, skills and attitudes to money. Children develop their behaviours around money by the age of seven, so it’s never too early to begin teaching them lifelong skills.
The two most accessible ways of reaching children are through the education system and their parents, so we have taken a collaborative, child-centred approach to positively impact children’s financial education.
This will ensure financial capability skills are continuously developed inside and outside the classroom.
Eighty-nine per cent of parents think it’s important for their child to learn about money at home and at school, and 80% would benefit from regular updates on how to support their child’s education in certain topics (Censuswide, 2020).
Money Heroes enables teachers and parents to access and deliver high-quality financial education with free, ready-to-teach resources, as well as track children’s progression through the platform collaboratively.
We’re passionate about providing teachers and educators with the knowledge and skills to help children succeed. That’s why we’re offering schools free in-house financial education teacher training and bespoke 1:1 mentoring support to identify opportunities across individual schools to expand financial education.
We understand financial education can be an overwhelming topic to introduce, as well as to start a conversation about for parents, so the Money Heroes podcast and parent guide have been created to continuously support, guide and empower parents and teachers to develop children’s money management skills as they grow older.
“I would like to thank you for the fantastic campaign you’ve started, educating young people about money matters! I think it is a common problem that kids don’t appreciate and value money and I am truly happy to see your approach with fun and positive books. Ed and Bunny are fantastic and cute (as my daughter says)”
“Resources are great, trainer was clear and easy to understand, we have been able to plan ahead from this teacher training session.”
We’re offering primary schools free, in-house financial education teacher training and one-to-one bespoke mentoring support to equip teachers to deliver high-quality and impactful financial education. To book your session for the coming academic year, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
