Boots Soltan Sun Ready is a fun and free learning programme specially designed to support primary schools when teaching sun safety to 5-11 year-olds.
Boots Soltan Sun Ready resources take a fun, creative and engaging approach to learning. The materials are easy to fit into lesson plans, providing great cross-curricular links and bringing the topic to life with a range of interactive tools and fresh ideas for both parents and teachers.
The programme’s resources provide credible and up-to-date information with a clear message from a trusted source. That’s why more than 3,000 teachers have registered with Boots Soltan Sun Ready since it first launched last year.
Most children know that sunburn is unpleasant and something to be avoided, but many will be unaware of why it should be avoided. Even in overcast weather, the sun’s rays can do damage to a young person’s skin.
The latest research illustrates why it’s vital that young people protect themselves from the sun during the summer months, and why it’s important to introduce positive sun safety habits from an early age:
Boots Soltan Sun Ready is specially designed to promote sun safe behaviour by educating schoolchildren, assisting teachers and providing tools to parents.
The programme provides a selection of curriculum-linked resources adaptable across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for science, PSHE, English and geography. Activities include drama role-plays, science experiments and writing tasks, also incorporating homework tasks and downloadable certificates.
Sports days and summer fairs are the perfect opportunity to introduce and develop sun safety habits for the school. You might be giving out prizes for the best sun hat or running a relay race to dress for the sun. You could even facilitate a pupil-led campaign, where your pupils are tasked with setting a stand, teaching peers and parents about sun safety and raising funds at the same time!
On Tuesday 6 June, Boots Soltan Sun Ready will launch the brand new Soltan Sun Ready Challenge app, a fun and interactive way to learn about sun safety.
With summer fast approaching, Boots Soltan Sun Ready has developed the Soltan Sun Ready Challenge app to support parents and teachers when encouraging primary school pupils to protect their skin and stay safe in the summer sun.
Available on the App Store and Google Play, the app uses augmented reality, videos and interactive challenges to bring the topic of sun safety to life. The app consolidates pupils’ learning about sun safety while encouraging outdoors activity and a spirit of exploration. Pupils will complete a series of five challenges, including wacky selfies, puzzles and games, which help them to learn how to stay safe in the sun.
