As school-based Valentine’s gestures go, this one takes some beating. Hayden Godfrey, a student attending Sky View High School in Utah, last week took it upon himself to give a single carnation to every girl there – amounting to 900 carnations, in all.
As he explained in a subsequent Facebook post, ‘I don’t think anything can compare to seeing every girl in your life holding a flower as they walk through the halls.’

From the comments below, the gesture certainly seems to be have been appreciated. ‘Thank you so much! You are incredible!!! I will never forget what you did for every girl in the school today!!’ says one female schoolmate; another adds, ‘This is amazing, and you are one of the kindest people I know! Thank you!’
Another classmate meanwhile suggests that Godfrey had been hatching the plan for some time. ‘I remember you talking about this back in middle school,’ he recalls – ‘I’m glad you followed through! Well done, my friend!’
