KS2 Literacy Lesson Plan – Task your Students with Delivering Bad News and their Writing will Flourish

Key Stage

KS2

Age

Years 3-6

Subjects

As adults, we often write ‘in character’. This might be in a professional capacity, from a personal perspective or as a volunteer. These real-life perspectives give our writing a purpose and a context.

As we train children to become proficient writers of letters or articles, a good starting point can be to give them a role so that they too write ‘in character’.

The more interesting this role is, the more interested the child will become. In this activity, children are ‘employed’ to coordinate the construction of a new dual carriageway.

In this lesson students will

  • Write with an appropriate degree of formality
  • Write effectively from a professional perspective, considering the feelings of the reader
  • Proofread writing carefully so that errors are identified
