The note penned by Saratoga Springs, New York resident Patrick Pipino to excuse his 12-year-old daughter Isabelle’s late school attendance earlier this week was nothing if not honest.

Pipino Snr. explained that, ‘Last night Isabelle was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Albany, and darned if he didn’t play for three and a half hours.’

While conceding it’s not a good excuse as these things go (the epic duration of Springsteen’s live sets are the stuff of legend, after all) he asks ‘How many kids would be late – or miss school outright – if God were to suddenly appear? It’s something like that.’

After Pipino posted the letter and its facetious sign-off to Facebook, it proceeded to go viral and resulted in the family appearing on ABC News – to whom Pipino commented ‘My wife is a schoolteacher in the district – She was mortified by not knowing what her betrothed did.’
