1-1 Teaching Assistant Job in a Junior School in Walsall.
Your New School
You will be working in one of our well-established partnership schools that Hays have been working with for a number of years, with consistently excellent feedback from those that have supported the school in the past. This community school is a part of the Walsall Local Authority, supports the ages 7 - 11 and is approximately 7 miles from the Wolverhampton City Centre (25-minute drive). This is a full-time position, 5 days a week starting from as early as 1st November until the end of the academic year.
Your New Role
You will be required to work as a 1-1 Teaching Assistant with an 8-year-old pupil who has recently joined the school on a temporary basis. This young pupil is currently working at the level of a 3-year-old, so experience in early years would be ideal as the school require you to use sounds/phonics to support the pupil. This is a new experience for the pupil as he has never been in a school before, so the environment is very new to him. He requires the support of a teaching assistant as he unfortunately has no literacy skills.
Your day-to-day duties includes you closely supporting the pupil with his basic learning abilities. You will be required to produce learning material for the child and create a welcoming learning environment that he will be comfortable in. You should have strong communication skills and be dedicated to ensuring he receives the support he needs with any issues he may have as well as his overall academic progression. The pupil may also require emotional support during the school day.
To start with it will be a temporary position at the school beginning from the 1st of November, straight after half term break, going on until the end of the academic year. This will be a full-time role, working hours being 8:20 - 15:05 Monday to Friday. However, training sessions (which you may be invited to) may go on up until 4:30 once every half term.
What you'll need to succeed
You should have recent experience within a classroom setting in the last 3 years & previous experience in KS1. This job is open to NQT'S/ECT's but at minimum, you will need a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant Qualification. The school are looking for a confident and engaging person that can always maintain a professional manner as this role may be physically and emotionally demanding. We would require you to be patient and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. What we would also require from you is to have active listening skills and the ability to understand people's reactions.
