Inspire Maths
Using model drawing as a valuable resource to strengthen and deepen pupils’ understanding of mathematics
Time: 9.00-16.00
Course cost: £199+VAT
This workshop is for: new members of staff as an introduction; existing staff as a refresher; and Maths Leaders considering how the Singapore approach can support teaching to mastery.
Join us to explore one of the heuristics used in the Singapore approach to teaching and learning mathematics. We will investigate the progression of bar modelling from Year 1 through to Year 6, enjoying some tricky questions from Inspire Maths on the way. In this workshop we will explore how the bar modelling method is used to develop pupils’ understanding of mathematical concepts. We will consider the bar modelling method as a valuable problem solving tool and how model drawing provides an important transition from the concrete to abstract concepts in key stages 1 and 2. We will also have the opportunity to look at how bar modelling can be used to solve algebraic expressions. This is an interactive workshop where you will be doing the maths, which will be inspiring, enjoyable, stimulating and thought provoking.
