It can be hard to know how to help someone going through a tough time, but small acts of kindness can make all the difference. These two kindness assembly resources – produced by the children’s mental health charity Place2Be – can help you spread a little kindness in your primary or secondary school. You can easily adapt this resource according to the needs of your pupils.

Kindness assembly download contains:

  • Assembly guide and slides for primary
  • Assembly guide and slides for secondary
  • Tips to encourage pupils to spread kindness

Primary kindness assembly aims

  • Understand that we all experience big and difficult feelings from time to time, that these feelings won’t last forever and will change, and there are things we can do to manage difficult feelings.
  • Recognise the benefits of spreading a little kindness towards others and being kind to ourselves.
  • Explore what being kind means, and identify things we can all do to show kindness

Materials required

A story to highlight kindness – either one of these suggestions, or an alternative from your school library. You can choose to read the story aloud or use a video

  • Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard (under 7s)
  • Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud
  • Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
  • Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson

Secondary kindness assembly aims

  • Recognise how showing kindness to each other and ourselves can support wellbeing, especially during tough times
